KALEIDOSCOPE AWARDS
Elizabethtown Area High Schoool Graduating Seniors

Kaleidoscope, a Celebration of the Arts in Elizabethtown, was held in 1998 for the benefit of the Elizabethtown Public Library and featured music, visual and literary arts.  The Kaleidoscope Awards are presented to provide recognition not only for the recipient, but the teachers, parents and librarians who support the arts in the Elizabethtown community.  Lynden Gallery, alongside the families for which the Awards are named, take pride in celebrating the work of these accomplished graduates.  It is our hope in the future to raise an endowment toward a scholarship fund to support the students' post-graduate studies in the arts.

The Ned O. Wert Kaleidoscope Award for Visual Arts is awarded to a graduating senior exhibiting originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal style or vision.  The candidate must be pursuing a secondary degree in the visual arts, and should submit a portfolio of 5-7 works in any media (3-D work may be presented in photo form for judging).  The portfolio work should be submitted within a folder with the candidate’s name clearly legible on the outside front.  A brief Personal Statement about the portfolio pieces with a separate paragraph devoted to the candidate’s plans for pursuing a career in art should be signed and included as the top piece inside the folder.  All entries are to be submitted through the EAHS Art Department – Mr. Wert will make the award selection.

The Betty G. Long Kaleidoscope Award for Music is awarded to a graduating senior exhibiting strong leadership skills and planning future study in music.  Candidates must submit a CD of 2-3 recorded pieces of their own performance, and a brief statement about their work and plans for pursuing a degree.  All entries are to be submitted through the EAHS Music Department – Ms. Long will make the award selection.

The Louise B. Black Kaleidoscope Award for the Literary Arts is awarded to a graduating senior exhibiting character, originality, and insight in his or her writing.  The candidate must be pursuing a secondary degree in the literary arts, and should submit a single manuscript (this can be an essay, a work of fiction, a poem) as well as a typewritten essay of no more than 500 words describing his or her passion for writing and plans for the future.  All entries are to be submitted through the EAHS English Department – the Black family will make the award selection.

Candidates for graduation are asked to submit their Kaleidoscope entries through the corresponding department at the Elizabethtown Area High School.  SUBMISSIONS FOR CONSIDERATION ARE TO BE FORWARDED TO THE LYNDEN GALLERY ON OR BEFORE APRIL 1st, prior to graduation.   Award winners will be announced at the Elizabethtown Area High School’s Senior Award Night at the High School.

The gallery will honor the Kaleidoscope Award winners with an opening exhibition featuring their work at the Lynden Gallery in the spring.  Award winners are asked to be present at this time.
