Kaleidoscope, a Celebration of the Arts in Elizabethtown, was held in 1998 for the benefit of the Elizabethtown Public Library and featured music, visual and literary arts. The Kaleidoscope Awards are presented to provide recognition not only for the recipient, but the teachers, parents and librarians who support the arts in the Elizabethtown community. Lynden Gallery, alongside the families for which the Awards are named, take pride in celebrating the work of these accomplished graduates. It is our hope in the future to raise an endowment toward a scholarship fund to support the students' post-graduate studies in the arts.
The Ned O. Wert Kaleidoscope Award for Visual Arts is awarded to a graduating senior exhibiting originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal style or vision. The candidate must be pursuing a secondary degree in the visual arts, and should submit a portfolio of 5-7 works in any media (3-D work may be presented in photo form for judging). The portfolio work should be submitted within a folder with the candidate’s name clearly legible on the outside front. A brief Personal Statement about the portfolio pieces with a separate paragraph devoted to the candidate’s plans for pursuing a career in art should be signed and included as the top piece inside the folder. All entries are to be submitted through the EAHS Art Department – Mr. Wert will make the award selection.
The Betty G. Long Kaleidoscope Award for Music is awarded to a graduating senior exhibiting strong leadership skills and planning future study in music.
